WebAt the start of 2024, 40 dioceses across England and Wales (27 in the Church of England and 13 in the Catholic Church) had yet to make a commitment to divest from fossil fuels, which involves committing to sell any investments in fossil fuel companies and not to invest in these companies in the future. WebThe reason is that we believe we can make a much greater impact in the world by staying invested in companies and changing them through direct engagement as a shareholder (where there is a belief that such engagement may lead to change), rather than divesting and handing our shares over to other investors, who may not have this objective.
